For over four decades, Fayette Senior Services has been providing the elderly of Fayette County, Georgia with meals delivered to them completely free of charge, viewings of professionally wrapped vehicles deployed for bedroom-to-doctor visits, and an all-round preservation of independence for many of its beneficiaries. From pre-packaged meals from Open Hand Atlanta, delivering heated meals via their “Meals on Wheels” program, funding possible medical appointments, and becoming the “eyes and ears in the field” to elderly residents, Fayette Senior Services does all it can to keep independence alive within many local seniors.
Meals on Wheels Program
For more than four decades, Fayette Senior Services has been providing nourishing meals to local seniors 60 and over through their Meals on Wheels program. This program has helped older adults preserve their independence, improve their quality of life, and remain connected to the community. The non-profit 501(c)(3) organization has grown significantly since its inception 42 years ago in a small house, and now operates with a beautiful 2,250 square foot facility.

The organization’s Meals on Wheels program delivers 160-178 meals every week across 15 different routes, covering the entire county. The volunteer drivers use their vehicles and resources to deliver meals to the most appreciative and expectant population. Many of the volunteers have been volunteering with Fayette Senior Services for years, expressing their love for what they do. Additionally, the organization also operates a fleet of commercially wrapped vehicles to help seniors get to medical appointments.
Fayette Senior Services is proud to deliver pre-packaged meals each weekday morning, provided by Open Hand Atlanta. Their menu has a 5-week rotation, which ensures a variety of meals for clients. Every single meal includes a meat entrée, two vegetable sides, a dinner roll, dessert, and milk – all flash-frozen food that can be heated in the microwave. Volunteers are responsible for packing the coolers labeled according to route and making them ready for delivery before the first volunteer arrives. With daily meal delivery, Fayette Senior Services’ volunteers serve as their eyes and ears in the field, providing them the opportunity to check in on everyone they deliver to. In the event something appears amiss, they call Fayette Senior Services immediately and a case manager takes it from there.
Furthermore, Fayette Senior Services also provides transportation to medical appointments for clients who need it.
Additionally, they offer a unique Ani-Meals program that helps homebound seniors ensure their beloved pets are properly fed. The program is an effective way to lighten the financial burden of providing meals for pets while strengthening the bond between seniors and pets. This program is an invaluable resource for seniors who rely on their furry companions for companionship and comfort.
Fayette Senior Services proudly offers the congregate meal program, now known as STAR (Seniors Together After Retirement), to its 60 and better members. This program provides transportation to the Life Enrichment Center where seniors can enjoy meaningful conversations with old and new friends, engage in recreational activities, and attend health and wellness classes, all while enjoying a delicious and nutritious meal. Additionally, they offer the unique Ani-Meals program that helps homebound seniors provide meals for their beloved pets, lightening the financial burden while preserving the special bond between seniors and pets. This program is an invaluable resource for seniors who rely on their pets for company and comfort.
All of these services are funded in part with generous contributions from the Federal, State, and Local governments. Finally, The Ultimate Cafe located at the Life Enrichment Center is a testament to Fayette Senior Services’ commitment to providing members with a superior and enjoyable experience.
