History of Starr’s Mill Park
Starr’s Mill Park, nestled in Whitewater Creek, is the perfect site for taking beautiful photos with its captivating views. The land was owned by Hananiah Gilcoat before he died in 1825, and later Hilliard Starr became the property owner from 1866 to 1879, which is when it was christened with its current name. William T. Glower constructed the existing building in 1907 after two log buildings caught fire. This mill used a water-powered turbine instead of a wheel to process maize and run a sawmill until 1959; what’s more, a cotton gin and dynamo that generated energy for nearby Senoia were located at Starr’s Mill Park. Visitors can capture special moments at the park’s picturesque waterfalls. In February 1991, Fayette County Water System purchased this historic landmark, including a dam, a mill house, and about 16 acres of property. Today, Starr’s Mill Park is visited for fishing, outings, and picnics and is accessible from Highway 85, south of Fayetteville.
